The Ummo started as side-project to atmospheric black metal one-man band Urscumug early this year. However currently presented material dates back to 2017 when it was composed for Urscumug's conceptual sci-fi themed album which was later discarded because of change in directions of the band.
Main focus of The Ummo is to present different kinds of sci-fi themes and conspiracy theories about aliens all of it shrouded in deepest human emotion - fear. Fear of something much greater than us hiding out there far beyond stars. Fear of something that can easily destroy us without even noticing it. From the sense of that unalterable fate derives the grim hopelesness and nihilism that are together with fear of cosmic horrors everpresent in recordings of The Ummo. Naturally the main inspirations are Lovecarft's cosmicism and movies such as Alien or The Thing with glimps of X-Files mystery here and there.
Hypnóza Barneyho Hilla (Hypnosis of Barney Hill) was at beginning planned as introducing song to longer conceptual album by Urscumug dealing with supposed abduction of Barney Hill and his wife Betty in 1960's and solar system of Zeta Reticuli. It was recorded digitally through MIDI keybord with just the simplest sample libraries during the winter of 2017. The voices in background belongs to Barney Hill and his hypnotizer - Dr. Benjamin Simon - and are sequences cut out from the recording of hypnosis of Barney Hill.
